I run this site myself, and I want this page to tell you plainly what happens to your information rather than read like a template nobody bothered to customize. Here is what I collect, why, how long I keep it, and what you can ask me to do about it.
Who runs this site
HomeAgingGuide.com is written and run by me, Simon Peter Lokomo. I am the person responsible for the information collected here. You can read about my background on the about page, and reach me through the contact page.
What I collect when you use the contact form
The contact form collects your name, your email address, the reason you are writing, and your message. That is all. I do not ask for your phone number, your address, or anything about your health, and you should never feel you need to give me any of that.
The form runs on WPForms. On the free version I use, submissions are not saved in this site’s own database. Instead they reach me as an email, and WPForms keeps a backup copy on their servers so that a message is not lost if an email fails to deliver. That backup sits with WPForms rather than with me, and is covered by their privacy policy.
I use your email address only to reply to you. I do not add you to a mailing list, and I do not use anything you send me for any other purpose.
What I collect if you leave a comment
Comments are open on articles. If you leave one, the form collects your name, your email address, and optionally your website, along with your comment itself and your browser’s IP address and user agent, which WordPress records to help catch spam. Your name, website, and comment are shown publicly. Your email address is not.
If you tick the box marked “save my name, email, and website in this browser,” WordPress stores that information in cookies on your device so you do not have to retype it next time. These are for your convenience, they last about a year, and you can clear them at any time through your browser settings. If you do not tick the box, no comment cookies are set.
WordPress also sends a scrambled version of your email address to the Gravatar service to check whether you have a profile picture associated with it. This is standard WordPress behavior and is covered by Automattic’s privacy policy.
Cookies and basic site data
WordPress uses a small number of technical cookies so the site functions correctly. Separately, my hosting provider keeps standard server logs, recording things like general location, browser type, and which pages were requested. Every website generates these simply by being loaded, and I do not use them to build any profile of you. The only other cookies this site sets are the optional comment cookies described above.
How long I keep things
Contact form messages stay in my email for as long as I need them to answer you and to keep a record of any correction you reported, and I clear out old correspondence periodically. WPForms’ backup copies expire automatically after one year. Comments and their associated details stay on the site indefinitely unless you ask me to remove them or I delete them as spam. Server logs are handled by my host on their own schedule.
Do I sell or share your information?
No. I do not sell, rent, or trade anything you give me, to anyone, for any reason. The only third parties that touch your information at all are the service providers named on this page, and only because they are what makes the form and the comments work.
Your rights over your information
You can ask me to show you what information I hold about you, correct it if it is wrong, delete it, send you a copy of it, or stop using it. Just use the contact form and pick “Something else” from the dropdown. I will act on it, and I will not make you justify why.
I am based in Italy, which means European data protection law applies to how I handle your information, wherever in the world you happen to be reading from. If you think I have handled something badly and I have not put it right, you have the right to complain to a data protection authority. In Italy that is the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali. If you live elsewhere in the European Union or the EEA, you can complain to your own country’s authority instead.
Links to other websites
Many articles here link out to primary sources: government agencies, medical journals, and manufacturers, so you can check the evidence for yourself. Once you follow a link and leave this site, that site’s own privacy policy applies rather than this one, and I have no control over how they handle your information.
A note on affiliate links
As of the date at the top of this page, this site carries no affiliate or tracked commercial links. If that changes, I will disclose it clearly on any page where it applies and update this section to name the programs involved. What I say about the evidence is never influenced by whether a link earns a commission. Several articles here actively recommend against buying popular products, and that will not change.
Health information
This site publishes general health and safety information. It is not a medical provider, and nothing here is medical advice. Please do not use the contact form or the comments to send personal health information or medical history. If you have a question about your own health or your parent’s, that belongs with their doctor rather than with me.
Children
This site is written for adults, usually the adult children of aging parents, and older adults themselves. It is not directed at children, and I do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
Changes to this policy
If how this site handles information changes in a way that matters, for example if I add analytics or affiliate tracking, I will update this page and change the date at the top. I will not quietly reduce your privacy protections without saying so here.
